Crowns

Our teeth can weaken over time due to wear, decay, cracks or other factors. As they begin to weaken, our teeth become susceptible to problems. A crown is a wonderful treatment option that prevents the continuation of the breakdown of our teeth, which results in restoring the tooth to a healthy state and avoiding other potential problems.

Crowns are usually fabricated from either a porcelain material or in full gold. Unless a full gold crown is the best option for your oral health, you can typically expect to receive a porcelain crown. It will be matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth so that it has a natural tooth appearance.

During the procedure, your tooth enamel is reduced and reshaped so that ultimately the crown can be placed over it.  Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth and the surrounding teeth. This mold will be used to fabricate the crown to insure that it properly fits in the spot created for it and looks the same relative to the surrounding teeth. Dr. Bacon & Dr. Zent offer E4D same day crown technology, which means that your new crown can be fabricated in the office during your appointment and you will receive it the same day. Sometimes, depending on the circumstance, not all crowns can be made in the same day during your appointment. If this happens to be the case, you will leave with a temporary crown while the dental lab fabricates your permanent crown. Once your crown is finished, which typically takes 2-3 weeks, you will return to the office for a short appointment to have your permanent crown placed.
